ABOUT ME

Breana is a 2012 graduate of Fayetteville State University and received a BA in Theatre. She was one of the founding members of Commonly Uncommon, a student based performance company on the campus of Fayetteville State University. In 2011, she was awarded the NC Campus Compact Community Impact Student Award. She now holds an MFA in Playwriting from Hollins University.

WHAT I'VE DONE

Breana's play Secrets At Ashley Manor was selected to be apart of the National Black Theatre Festival in July 2019 in Winston-Salem, NC. She is currently a member of the New Perspective Theatre Company's 2019 Women Work Short Play Lab in NYC. Her play The Abundance of the Heart was featured in the NPTC Short Play Festival summer 2019.

WHAT I DO

Breana is a former middle school theatre teacher for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. In 2018 she focused on becoming a successful self-producing playwright in Charlotte, NC  and mentored Theatre Majors at Johnson C. Smith University. She is currently a Teaching Artist and works in the film industry as a script supervisor and freelance screenwriter.

Theatre Charlotte is launching our This is Charlotte series with this dramatic imaginative reading from local playwright, Breana C. Venablé. Elliott Parks has been getting into trouble in school, though no one seems to recognize that his behavior is a cry for help. Tensions rise in his family and community after an unarmed black man was killed by a white cop, a few houses down.

Know Justice Know Peace

When a beloved barber is killed by police, his sister and best friend take justice into their own hands, uniting their southern community to fight police brutality and corruption. Breana was awarded the 2021 NC Arts & Science Council Artist Support Grant. With this award she will begin the research and development phase of this feature as well as film and produce a micro short film.

WHAT Y'ALL DOIN??? is a web series that centers around six best friends who've all been displaced due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To find some normalcy and maintain their intimacy, they all decide what better way to keep their friendship alive than zooming on weekly check-ins. Over 10 years of friendship, all the drama, and the dodging of shade, there's should be nothing that could tear this group apart...right?

The Abundance of the Heart

Will be featured in the Women's Work Short Play Festival with New Perspectives Theatre Company August 5-10, 2019. Brenda arrives to the ER with raising health concerns. Her two children sit bed side with her as they all open old and unsettled wounds. As the nurse and doctor evaluate her, we find that her health is not the only thing that's been left untreated and how black women are treated by the American Healthcare system.

The Depression is on the path of lifting, school will once again be starting and young Noah Ashley, the son of a wealthy judge, believes the woman he loves is worth any and every risk. Even though he lives in Beulah, Mississippi and the love of his life is Black.

It's 2013 and another young unarmed Black man has been fatally shot by at White cop. The surrounding community has been shaken by this tragedy they can't escape. It's in their neighborhood, at their job, on the TV screen and controlling their lives. With rising tensions and emotions running wild, it's a race against time before their lives collide.

Fade To Black Play Festival

Breana's play "Sell Out" was featured in the 2019 Fade To Black Play Festival Reading Series in Houston, TX. Life long friends, Rusty and Sly, just found themselves on the same base. When they meet for the first time in years, Rusty sees Sly's true colors. He questions Sly's friendship and his loyalty. On the brink of war and continuing of segregation, Sly has to decide if he can be true to himself or to his country.
